Ironic Immigration Attorney Fees
A man in Yakima Washington, Manuel Rodriguez, was convicted of unauthorized practice of immigration law. Rodriguez owned and operated a firm in Yakima that provided immigration related services to would be citizens in exchange for a fee. Under rules of legal ethics, only licensed attorneys are allowed to charge for legal services.
Rodriguez was ordered to pay $4,500 in civil penalties and $3,000 in attorney fees. What an entertaining irony that he was ordered to pay attorney fees when his violation was none other than accepting attorney fees!
All joking aside, this is apparently a big problem in that part of the country. This incident was the latest in a string of 13 incidents of unauthorized practice of immigration law in Yakima Washington. What to do?
